For UPA’s sins, The Hindu makes NDA responsible.
On Wednesday Supreme Court passed a landmark judgment that sex with underage wife constitutes rape. Experts believe that it will affect millions of girls. Child marriage is serious issue in India & to make the matter worse marital rape is not a crime. In the given situation, this ruling from the honorable Supreme Court can be seen as a historic one.
In India age of consent is 18 and child marriage is illegal, but the practice persists in many parts of the country. According to Girls Not Brides — a coalition of NGOs working to end child marriage — 47% of Indian girls are married by the age of 18.
Sex with a child under 18 is considered rape but marital rape is not recognized as a crime according to exception 2 to the Section 375 of IPC. Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 specifies that sexual intercourse with children aged below 18 amounted to rape.
An NGO wanted the Supreme Court to examine the conflict between these two and strike down exception 2 to Section 375. Long story short, on Wednesday, a Bench of Justices Madan B. Lokur and Deepak Gupta read down the Section. Under the new ruling, girls who are raped by their husbands can bring charges within one year of the offense.
It is a welcome decision, a long due reform and the present union Govt has no role in it. But, as always our MSM is busy finding opportunities to settle their scores for their masters. One of the most reputed newspapers in India, The Hindu made a tweet which reads:
Home Ministry says marriage of minors is an old custom in India, practised by all social groups.

It clearly gives an impression that the present NDA Govt wanted exception 2 to stay and the Modi Govt is the villain here. Here are the first few comments on The Hindu’s tweet which prove that The Hindu has successfully executed the hitjob:

What The Hindu did here? The just swiftly removed the word UPA & used “says” instead of “said”. When the NGO filed the petition, the then MHA. And The Hindu knew it, they themselves mention it in the article:
The Home Ministry, under the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, in February 2014 filed a counter affidavit against striking down the provision. The National Democratic Alliance government adopted the UPA’s affidavit and supported the IPC provision.
Very conveniently just changing the form a verb did the job and the Govt which has no role in it has been painted as the bad guy.
